Project "Hackability of the Stool" by Daisuke Motoki / DDAA LAB
This project started in 2020 as an idea introduced on Instagram with the aim of modifying common stools to create new perspectives and values. 100 stools have since been actually produced from over 330 sketches of ideas. Due to modernism and respect for the original, the 100 stools, using the "Stool 60" designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933, were lined up for exhibitions in Hangzhou, China in 2021 and at the Kyocera Museum of Art in Kyoto, Japan, in 2022.
At CIBONE, visitors will be able to see selected pieces from those 100 stools, focusing on the "L-shaped legs" that are the symbol of "Stool 60. In addition, the 101st leg, created for the CIBONE exhibit, it is also available for viewing at the store.
In Aalto's philosophy of standardizing furniture parts and systems, the "L-leg" was created from the idea of applying it not only to stools but also to various furniture products. What kind of expandability and modifiability can be found in this age of ever-changing concepts of things and places?
We hope you will take note of how the "Stool 60," which has transcended time and is still familiar throughout the world as the ultimate standard, has been modified with the addition of just a few elements to retain its modernist qualities while making it connectable to more diverse lifestyles.
Some of the works exhibited during the exhibition will be available for order in limited quantities.
